Yamato Empire of the Rising Sun Campaign #1: Assassins

Many lions bar your path

Goal: Eliminate Izumo leader.

The Skinny: This is a nice change of pace, since you don't build in this scenario at all. Your goal is to kill the Izumo leader, but getting to him won't be easy. The best way to win this scenario is to simply hug the map borders.

From your starting point, go to the eastern border then travel towards the eastern corner, staying as close to the edge as possible. Your initial hurdle will be to clear out the lions scattered all over the eastern portion of the board. Don't let anyone in your party get killed - you will meet several friendly priests along the way who will heal them.

Shuffle your men around so that they take turns bearing the brunt of the lion attacks. Go all the way down to the eastern corner of the map to find the first priest. Get healed. Now hug the map and head towards the southern corner.

From here, hug the map and head towards the western corner. At some point you will come to another priest just outside the walls of the city that houses the Izumo leader. Get healed as necessary. Now break through the wall, but be sure to do so as close to the edge of the map as possible.

You can easily trigger a catapult attack if you're not careful. Once through the wall, continue to hug the edge of the map as much as possible. You will have to fight soldiers as you come into their view, so move cautiously so as not to trigger too many at once. There is yet another priest near the northern corner of the map who can heal you.

If you continue to move as close as possible to the edges of map, you will be forced south a bit until you see some red flags. These indicate that the leader is nearby. Again, move cautiously so that you don't trigger too many soldiers.

Retreat and get healed again by the priest if needed. Follow the red flags, and the Izumo leader will appear to fight you. Attack him with everything you have. He's a hero and is especially tough. When he's dead, the scenario is over.

Dangers: It's easy to lose a soldier in this one, which can really hurt your chances of success. Move cautiously so that you don't trigger multiple lions and soldiers.
