Yamato Empire of the Rising Sun Campaign #2: Island Hopping

Destroy this dock quickly!

Goal: Recover the six stolen treasures.

The Skinny: Feel like doing some sailing? Better get your sea legs ready, since you'll be dropping and hoisting anchor quite a bit in this one. You need to sail around and collect the stolen treasures, which are scattered about on little islands.

The key to victory in this scenario is to quickly destroy the dock that is producing enemy war galleys, which will eventually run you down. If you destroy this dock early on, the scenario becomes much easier.

To start, a couple of war galleys will engage you within the first minute. Keep your siege weapons and archers on the island and hope that they get a shot at the enemy ship.

Once you dispatch with the enemy ship, load your transport and move your tiny flotilla westward. The enemy dock is near the western edge of the map. There will be several enemy warships in your path on the way, which you cannot defeat with your ships only. You have to be ready to unload your transport on a nearby island and quickly select your siege weapons to help sink the enemy ships.

There will be an enemy warship waiting at the dock, as well, and one will probably be built while you attack. Unload your transport on the small island just to the north of the dock and use your ships and siege weapons to destroy the warship and the dock. Be wary of crocodiles and an enemy archer to the north.

After you destroy the dock it gets easier. The island your troops are on is connected to some other islands by marshes you can traverse. Cautiously proceed north. There are some archers to deal with.

Up along the northwest edge of the map is a larger island with one of the treasures, which is guarded by a single axeman and is in the middle of the island. Be careful not to trigger the large contingent of enemy forces waiting along the southwest edge of this same island.

Once you have the treasure, load it onto the small transport. The rest is simply a matter of sailing about and finding the treasures, which are guarded by a few troops or wild animals. As long as you have your siege weapons and archers unloaded on each island you explore, you will do fine. You can also use a recovered artifact to scout an island for you. You will lose control of it when it encounters an enemy, but you'll regain it when you defeat the enemy.

There is one more danger spot. Along the southeast edge of the map is a tiny island with a priest and a couple soldiers inhabiting it. The priest will try to convert you, so be ready to move away. There is no treasure on his island.

Dangers: The real danger comes if you don't destroy the dock early on. You will be hunted by warship after warship if you don't. It takes good troop management to quickly destroy the dock without losing your siege weapons. Be careful.
