Archers

Even the mighty Achilles was felled by an arrow. Archers are best in bunches, and may be the most effective unit in the game, based on cost and early availability. They are vulnerable to infantry attacks, however, so protect them with your own infantry and wisely retreat them in the face of imminent hand-to-hand combat.

Research important to creating archers:

The storage pit has important armor bonuses for archers. The government center lets you research nobility (+15 percent hit points for chariot and horse archers), alchemy (+1 attack for all archers), and ballistics (increases the accuracy of archers). The market is very important. It allows you to research woodworking, artisanship, and craftsmanship, which each give you a +1 range on your attacks (and have the bonus of increasing woodcutting). It also lets you research the wheel, which allows chariot archers.
