Infantry

Infantry, as is usual in warfare, are the grunt troops in Age of Empires. Early on, they
are a powerful force. By the Bronze Age, they are superseded by academy units and cavalry,
but their relatively cheap cost means they will always be important. Infantry are
especially good choices to attack enemy structures, as archery units don't do as much
damage.
The Age of Empires infantry spring from two sources: the barracks and the academy. The
academy units, starting with the hoplites, are the elite units, and their price reflects
that status.
Research important to creating infantry units:

The storage pit yields a wealth of technology research
benefits to infantry. These take the form of upgrades to either attack strength or armor.
The government center lets you research aristocracy, which lets your academy units
(hoplites, et al.) move 25 percent faster. |
