Egypt Campaign #12: Siege in Caanan

Screenshot
Move your soldiers towards the east edge of the map to buy some time

Goal: Destroy the Caananite government center.

The Skinny: Immediately move your starting military units to the eastern edge of the map. If they move westward, they will trigger an attack. If they hug the map border, you can build at your leisure.

Put your starting villagers on berry collection and build another four or five villagers to speed up the process. When the berries are depleted, hug the eastern edge of the map and head north. There you will find a forest. Build a storage pit and start chopping wood.

You should be able to upgrade to the Tool Age when the pit is finished. If you're short of meat, west of the forest clearing is a river where you should be able to spot the fish. Build a dock and a single fishing boat (more than one is overkill). You can also build a scout ship and start to sail north to harass the enemy on the other side (you may be able to kill some archers and keep them from attacking your village later on).

Build a granary and market once you are in the Tool Age and start farming. Now continue to cut wood and farm and hug the eastern edge of the map (you can venture westward near the forest, but don't go beyond the river).

Build up your army and brace for a possible attack, either in the Tool or Bronze Age. You can farm and cut wood and upgrade to the Bronze Age.

Build a small army and head south, hugging the map edge again. When you get to the corner of the map, head west where you'll run into a cliff. Follow the cliff north until you engage the enemy. Stop there and kill the enemy troops as they straggle towards you. When they stop attacking, probe westward up the hill. You may have to fight a few more soldiers on top of the plateau.

Once you take control, you can mine the gold and stone up here. This allows you to advance to the Iron Age. There is another plateau on top of some cliffs due west of the first plateau where there is more gold if you need it.

Once in the Iron Age, build up a moderately sized force by adding a couple of stone throwers and protecting them with ample archers. There is a river crossing, guarded by towers. Take out the towers with the stone throwers, using your archers to protect them.

From here on it's simply an inexorable march northward. You will have to destroy several towers along the way. The walled-in Caanan government center is at the far north.

Dangers: Don't trigger the attack early on and make sure you are powerful enough to engage the enemy. This one can be simple if you follow this easy recipe for success.
