Chapter Two: Units

Artillery

Requires: Explosives
Cost: 1,200

Assault: 4
Ranged Strength: 20
Defense: 4
Vision: 1
Movement Points: 1
Support: 36
Abilities: Bombards

If you've been launching an assault on an enemy city and keep getting sacked, consider building several artillery units and moving them near the town. Since artillery units can engage in long-distance bombardment, so enemy forces must come outside to get them, a very dangerous proposition if you have other military units acting as escort. Artillery is an effective way to soften up city defenses before launching a full-blown invasion with ground troops.

When the time comes to protect your shores, place your naval units in a line along your exposed coast. If your enemy wants to attack your coastal cities, he must punch through your naval ranks first.

Battleship

Requires: Steel
Cost: 2,000

Assault: 20
Ranged Strength: 20
Defense: 15
Vision: 2
Movement Points: 5
Support: 60
Abilities: Bombards

If ruling the seas is your priority, you'll be hard pressed to do any better than a battleship. Not only can this powerful unit hold its own during naval warfare and keep the trade lanes free of enemy insurgency, but battleships are an effective bombardment tool for softening up opposing cities. Similar to artillery in ability, the best thing about the battleship is that ground troops can't do a thing about it, forcing the enemy to engage it with either air power or other naval units. It's the perfect unit to soften up enemy defenses before a ground invasion.

Bomber

Requires: Jet propulsion
Cost: 2,250

Assault: 10
Ranged Strength: 20
Defense: 4
Vision: 1
Movement Points: 10
Fuel: 5 Turns
Support: 68
Abilities: Carries one nuke bombardment

Carrying a payload of nuclear weaponry is a great way to instill fear in the opposition and make it think twice before screwing around with you. Not only does the bomber soften up enemy defenses like artillery units and battleships, but its nuclear payload will decrease the population of a city by one, with the added possibility of instigating food shortages and, better yet, riots. Make sure you have a friendly city nearby, so the bomber can refuel (an aircraft carrier won't help). Used in conjunction with battleships and artillery units, the bomber gives the enemy one more problem to deal with.
