Boats and Ships

Scout Ship
Scout
Ship
Available in: Tool Age
Prerequisites: Build Dock
Cost: 135 wood
Hit points: 120
Attack: 5
Armor: N/A
Range: 5
Speed: Fast
Upgrades to: War Galley
Special: Twice as resistant to conversion

Civilizations with bonuses for Scout Ship: Greek (30 percent faster), Hittite (+4 attack range), Minoan (-30 percent cost), and Yamato (+30 percent hit points)

Scout Ship Tips: Use your scout ships to sink your enemy's fishing boats and pick off any coastal structures. Ships are most effective in numbers, like other military units. The corollary to this is to build scout ships to protect your own fleet of fishing ships.

War Galley
War
Galley
Available in: Bronze Age
Prerequisites: Build Dock
Cost: 135 wood
Hit points: 160
Attack: 8
Armor: N/A
Range: 6
Speed: Fast
Upgrades to: Trireme
Special: Twice as resistant to conversion

Civilizations with bonuses for War Galley: Greek (30 percent faster), Hittite (+4 attack range), Minoan (-30 percent cost), and Yamato (+30 percent hit points)

War Galley Tips: A "must" upgrade for your scout ships. War Galleys are quite a bit superior to scout ships, getting in a free attack against scout ships due to their superior range and "outslugging" and outlasting them. A naval stalemate can quickly become one-sided if you upgrade before your opponent.

Trireme
Trireme
Available in: Iron Age
Prerequisites: Build Dock
Cost: 135 wood
Hit points: 200
Attack: 12
Armor: N/A
Range: 7
Speed: Fast
Upgrades to: Catapult Trireme
Special: Twice as resistant to conversion. They fire once every two seconds

Civilizations with bonuses for Trireme: Greek (30 percent faster), Hittite (+4 attack range), Minoan (-30 percent cost), Persian (+50 percent fire rate), and Yamato (+30 percent hit points)

Trireme Tips: Another "must" upgrade. These ships can sink a Bronze Age navy quickly. What more do you need to know?

Catapult Trireme
Catapult
Trireme
Available in: Iron Age
Prerequisites: Build Dock and research catapult trireme in Iron Age
Cost: 135 wood, 75 gold
Hit points: 120
Attack: 35
Armor: N/A
Range: 9
Speed: Fast
Upgrades to: Juggernaught
Special: Twice as resistant to conversion. They fire once every five seconds and have a small damage area

Civilizations with bonuses for Catapult Trireme: Greek (30 percent faster), Hittite (+4 attack range), Minoan (-30 percent cost), Persian (+50 percent fire rate), Phoenician (+65 percent fire rate), and Yamato (+30 percent hit points)

Catapult Trireme Tips: These are great for leveling an opponent's coastline structures but are not very good at hitting other moving ships. You need to protect catapult triremes with normal triremes. They are fast, however, and, unlike land-based catapults, can be used to quickly strike and retreat.

Juggernaught
Juggernaught
Available in: Iron Age
Prerequisites: Build Dock and research catapult trireme in Iron Age (also requires that you research engineering)
Cost: 135 wood, 75 gold
Hit points: 200
Attack: 35
Armor: N/A
Range: 10
Speed: Fast
Upgrades to: N/A
Special: Twice as resistant to conversion. They fire once every five seconds and have a medium damage area

Civilizations with bonuses for Juggernaught: Greek (30 percent faster), Hittite (+4 attack range), Minoan (-30 percent cost), Persian (+50 percent fire rate), Phoenician (+65 percent fire rate), and Yamato (+30 percent hit points)

Juggernaught Tips: See catapult trireme tips.
