Cavalry

Scout
Scout
Available in: Tool Age
Prerequisites: Build Barracks and Stable
Cost: 100 food
Hit points: 60
Attack: 3
Armor: 0
Range: N/A
Speed: Fast
Upgrades to: N/A

Civilizations with bonuses for Scouts: Yamato (-25 percent cost)

Scout Tips: A superior unit for scouting the enemy position early on and finding resources scattered around the map. They are also quite good at harassing the enemy villagers, scampering away as the axemen cometh.

Cavalry
Cavalry
Available in: Bronze Age
Prerequisites: Build Barracks and Stable
Cost: 70 food, 80 gold
Hit points: 150
Attack: 8
Armor: 0
Range: N/A
Speed: Fast
Upgrades to: Heavy Cavalry
Special: +5 attack against infantry

Civilizations with bonuses for Cavalry: Yamato (-25 percent cost)

Cavalry Tips: With their 150 hit points and bonus attack ability, cavalry units can go toe-to-toe with most infantry. Their speed allows you to perform flanking maneuvers, as well as get to siege weapons quickly while sustaining little damage. Once in close, siege weapons can no longer target cavalry.

Chariot
Chariot
Available in: Bronze Age
Prerequisites: Build Barracks and Stable (also requires that the wheel has been researched)
Cost: 40 food, 60 wood
Hit points: 100
Attack: 7
Armor: 0
Range: N/A
Speed: Fast
Upgrades to: N/A
Special: High resistance to conversion and double damage against priests

Civilizations with bonuses for Chariot: Egyptian (+33 percent hit points)

Chariot Tips: These are priest killers and siege weapon killers, since they get right up next to the siege weapon and can't be targeted by it. They are also good for scouting and not bad as general-purpose fighters, since they do not require gold to build. However, chariot archers are still your best bet for attacking priests.

Heavy Cavalry
Heavy
Cavalry
Available in: Iron Age
Prerequisites: Build Barracks and then Stable
Cost: 70 food, 80 gold
Hit points: 150
Attack: 10
Armor: 1
Range: N/A
Speed: Fast
Upgrades to: Cataphract
Special: +5 attack against infantry and +1 armor against missile weapons and ballista weapons

Civilizations with bonuses for Heavy Cavalry: Yamato (-25 percent cost)

Heavy Cavalry Tips: See cavalry tips.

Cataphract
Cataphract
Available in: Iron Age
Prerequisites: Build Barracks and Stable (also requires that metallurgy has been researched)
Cost: 70 food, 80 gold
Hit points: 180
Attack: 12
Armor: 3
Range: N/A
Speed: Fast
Upgrades to: N/A
Special: +5 attack against infantry and +1 armor against missile weapons and ballista weapons

Civilizations with bonuses for Cataphract: Yamato (-25 percent cost)

Cataphract Tips: See cavalry tips.

War Elephant
War
Elephant
Available in: Iron Age
Prerequisites: Build Barracks and Stable
Cost: 170 food, 40 gold
Hit points: 600
Attack: 15
Armor: 0
Range: N/A
Speed: Slow
Upgrades to: N/A
Special: Does trample damage to adjacent units. Attack strength cannot be upgraded

Civilizations with bonuses for War Elephants: Persian (+50 percent faster) and Phoenician (-25 percent cost)

War Elephant Tips: They're great for being the first ones into the breach and drawing the enemy fire. They also effectively serve as a temporary barrier in narrow passages. They are relatively cheap on the gold scale, compared to other cavalry. Slow, slow, slow, though. Don't count on them riding in to save the day.
