Voices of Babylon Campaign #5: The Great Hunt

Kill one stone thrower then run to the priests and convert the other stone thrower as it approaches

Goal: Capture the artifact.

The Skinny: Holy Purple Cows of Babylon! This one will make you want to send your game CD sailing out the window! Suffice it to say, save early and often in this scenario, and use multiple save names in case you go down a wrong path.

It's like a relay race, really. The idea is to get at least one of your soldiers through each leg of the gauntlet so that he can "pass the baton" and activate the next group. It's full of "triggers," so advance cautiously, and be prepared to charge past some dangers as well.

To start, head south. You'll hit some lions, preferably one at a time. There's also a little pocket of a few elephants and a lion. Just run past and "tag" the archers waiting for you.

Enemy archers are next. Kill them - no tricks here.

Next, the road forks, but it makes no difference which path you take. More enemy archers await, and you simply need to get through to your scouts.

Next up you have a few more archers and a bunch of towers you can't possibly destroy. Keep your scouts healthy and kill the archers. Now send your archers marching past the towers first so that they draw the initial fire, then rush your scouts in behind them. Get at least one scout to the cavalry awaiting your torn and tattered arrival.

Run north. Stone throwers await. At the end of this gauntlet you can free a couple of priests, so if you can run past something and not kill it, you may be able to come back to convert it. Run past the elephant archers and the towers to the two stone throwers. Destroy at least one if you can. Now run to the priests and convert the other stone thrower as it rumbles toward you.

Bash down the walls to free the priests. You might be able to find a couple of stone throwers to convert on an island that you rode by, but you will have to pick them up later.

If you converted a stone thrower (and you could really use one), head back the way you came and destroy the towers to get to the elephant archers. You want to lure them one by one towards your priests so that they can be converted. You can use the elephant archer throughout to draw fire and attempt to convert the units firing on them, if possible.

Now find the transport ship in the river near the cliffs. Go to the other side of the lake and drop off your priests. They will attempt to convert the siege weapons on the other side of the cliff. This is a good way to kill them.

Now cross the lake and head to the next row of cliffs. You have towers and siege weapons to face, and even worse, priests. Use your stone throwers to destroy the towers. At the top of the cliffs there are a bunch of ballistas and a heavy catapult. Use your troops to attack the ballistas and use your priests to try to grab the heavy catapult, as you'll need its range.

After that, it's another patch of catapults. Your best bet is to get a shot off with your catapult then rush them with your troops.

Next you'll face a bunch of archers and priests. Use the catapult to kill them. If you don't have a catapult, use your troops, but have your priest ready to reconvert any of your troops that get converted.

Next come a few composite bowmen. Convert them if you can or kill them.

Now sail across the lake to grab the catapults you may have converted a long time ago when you made the prison break. You have land near a natural bridge leading to an island. There are quite a few enemies on this island. Try to convert as many as you can by luring them out. Destroy those you cannot.

Next you have lots of little islands to clear. Many of them have siege weapons, so carefully destroy or avoid them. From this point on it's simply a matter of bombarding, converting, and healing enemies from long distance, or luring them out with your elephants.

The final stage is the assault of an island in the western corner. This is where the treasure is located. You will have to quickly kill a siege weapon when you land on this mountain island. After that, bombard the cliffs and heal your stone throwers and troops as they take damage.

Dangers: Ha! Just about every step of the way. Biggest dangers are not getting one of those stone throwers early on and losing your priests.
