Glory of Greece Campaign #6: Siege of Athens

Augment your city walls with an extra wall to save your towers

Goal: Capture the enemy artifacts.

The Skinny: This starts out hard but then gets pretty easy. Within a minute your city is attacked by the Spartans. They will come from the west. You need to hold off this attack, which comes in two or three waves. The trick to beating back the Spartans is to augment your city's walls with another wall.

You get 100 stone, but there is no more nearby, so place the new wall carefully. You want to protect your towers. Take a few of the villagers located outside of your city and have them construct this wall. To protect the towers with the small amount of stone you have, you will have to just build a few unconnected sections. Use up all your stone.

Take the rest of your villagers outside the city and send them as far north as they can go to protect them. The villagers inside your city can move away from the wall. Don't worry about the farms and structures outside your city. Let the Spartans waste time on them while you prepare.

Bunch together your forces inside the city so that they can mass their attack should the Spartans break through. You can build another few units with your starting resources, as well. Note the natural high ground in your city that you can use to your advantage should the Spartans breach your defenses.

You also have two war galleys you can swing down to the southwest corner of your city to get some shots at the Spartans.

After you repel the Spartans and things settle down, you can follow the simple build-and-attack formula. Use your villagers up north to build a storage pit, chop wood, and hunt gazelles. Trade wood and meat for gold with the Spartan colony to the south. You can also fish.

Build an army of heavy cavalry, centurions, and priests. Head south and engage the scattered Spartan resistance, approximately 20 heavy cavalry and a handful of phalanx. Defeat them and recover the artifacts for victory.

Dangers: You'll win or lose in the first few minutes. Protect your city towers and mass your attacks.
