Chapter Seven: Wonders

Star Ladder

Age: Genetic
Cost: 12,000
Prerequisite: Smart materials
Primary Function: Space transportation
Effect: Gives free transportation in and out of space in city; free space colony at top of ladder
Obsolescence: Never

A relatively inexpensive genetic age wonder, the Star Ladder should give the civilization that discovers it a quick edge in the space race. The Star Ladder is city-specific, so discover this wonder in your most unit-productive city for quick access to space. Further, the Star Ladder also provides a free colony for those units to arrive to. If you don't feel military pressure from your opponents, the Star Ladder should be an intelligent discovery, giving you an edge on the late-game space race. But, if nuclear threat looms overhead or your bases are defended weakly, you may want to opt for the other genetic wonders, such as the Nanite Defuser or National Shield.

Stonehenge

Age: Ancient
Cost: 2,160
Prerequisite: Astronomy
Primary Function: Food
Effect: +25 percent food in civilization
Obsolescence: Age of reason

There are not many reasons to bypass the Stonehenge wonder. Food is a critical resource early in the game, and gaining a huge bonus like +25 percent can give you a distinct population and expansion edge over all the other civilizations as you enter the age of reason.

The first civilization to discover the Wormhole Sensor wonder has the fast track to a successful scientific victory. Get those probes ready!

Wormhole Sensor

Age: Diamond
Cost: 20,000
Prerequisite: Wormholes
Primary Function: End game
Effect: Makes wormhole visible to all civilizations
Obsolescence: Never

If you're playing to be the first civilization to contact an alien lifeform and secure the alien DNA, you'll most definitely want to be the first to discover the Wormhole Sensor wonder. However, this wonder isn't the full story; you must be completely prepared to launch the probe to successfully end, and win, the game for yourself. If you are unprepared, any enemy faction could take the glory right out from under you. Also, any players gearing for a military win could turn their sights directly at you once you've begun construction of this end-game wonder. On all accounts, be prepared once you decide the time is right to begin its construction.
