Quest: Find Someone to Sponsor you for the Gauntlet Immediately after you've finished the conversation with the quartermaster, Gearhart approaches from the machinery room. Speak with Gearhart, and he'll offer to sign your sponsorship petition in exchange for a favor. Select yes when prompted. He asks that you kill an urchin causing trouble near the apple orchard. If you kill the urchin, Gearhart will sign your petition. He hands over the ruby key that provides access through the gate into the orchard. Complete Gearhart's quest, and he'll sponsor you for the gauntlet. Quest: Kill the Urchin Terrorizing the Dün Mir Orchard Walk west of the fortress and enter through the orchard gate. Explore the orchard and kill the bats chasing the poor female workers. Collect the stray apples on the ground. The northwest area of the orchard contains a shed with the urchin beast scroll, some gold, and a pair of leather armbands. When you're ready, enter the caves to the northeast of the shed (due north inside the orchard) and prepare for battle against the annoying urchin. Tip: Don't pick up the apples in the orchard if you've suffered damage from the bats of the urchin - you'll automatically use them to regenerate health. Instead, use the well of restoration just outside the orchard gate. Once you're full health, return inside the orchard and pick up all the stray apples. Follow the cavernous path and defeat the bats along the way. Open the chests on the northern side of the cave for some gold. As you continue to the east, you'll find the urchin. Defeating the urchin requires you to corner the small beast against the wall. If you attempt to chase the pest around, he'll keep walking away from you as you approach. Quest: Locate Gearhart in the Machinery Room With the urchin defeated, exit the cavern and orchard and proceed northeast to find the machinery room (the area with the gears and due east from the fortress). Talk to Gearhart, who hands you the signed petition. Exit the machinery room and walk up to the quartermaster standing in front of the gauntlet entrance.
