Chapter Six: Terrain Improvements

Maglevs

Requires: Superconductor
Cost: 240-1,600
Time: 4
Gives: Movement cost - 1/10

The hyper version of roads, laying down maglev tracks will ensure your units can get around your civilization with ease and speed, decreasing movement costs a whopping 1/10th for every unit that travels along one. Once you have a nice grid of maglevs set up between your cities, you can channel all your units from one city to the next with speed, making large migrations of military units an easy task to accomplish. However, the enemy can also use your tracks as well, so keep a lookout, as once they are on the tracks, they can go anywhere within your civilization pretty rapidly.

Mega Assembly Bays

Requires: Future flight 2
Cost: 2,200
Time: 2
Gives: +90 production; +15 gold

The ultimate in production technology, each square outfitted with a mega assembly bay receives an impressive +90 production modifier as well as +15 gold, per turn. Building several of these around your largest cities will find you completing wonders in short order as well as cranking out military units and other resources with astounding speed. Often, the mega assembly bay can turn the tide for your civilization if you find yourself in a space race with the competition. Remember, just because you build this improvement doesn't mean your workers will automatically take advantage of it, so manually make sure you have a worker on this tile to receive the benefit.

The city in the center of this shot used to be surrounded by unproductive desert tiles. After a little work, it's been surrounded with mountain ranges that can now sport highly productive mines for increased resources. Always work the land around your cities so every tile is serving some purpose.

Mega Mines

Requires: Robotics
Cost: 1,600-2,200
Time: 2
Gives: +15/+30/+45 production; +5/+15 gold

Replacing your mines with mega mines, while expensive, will ultimately benefit you with a sizable increase in production rates. This is especially important when you find your civilization in a feud, and rapid deployment of units is a must. The more production you have, the less time it will take to create new units and city improvements, a fact that can often turn the tide of war.
