There are plenty of barrels throughout the levels, but wizards have low strength and cannot carry many spare weapons. Use your bare hands to open barrels to conserve your weapons. You should carry spare robes, cloaks, and other armor with you. Especially prize clothing that protects you against fire and poison. When entering a new area, figure out what kinds of creatures live there and put on the appropriate garb. Check your inventory from time to time to see if any of your clothing is about to be ruined and redress yourself if needed.

To keep yourself from spending a lot of time backtracking to mana regenerators, eat your apples and steaks rather than casting heal on yourself. If you rely only on your potions and spells, you will find yourself leaving tons of apples and steaks to rot on the ground.

Spend your money when you encounter shopkeepers. Most important is repair, but then spend whatever you have left on useful spell books and clothing. Don't bother to save your money - there is no mega-shopkeeper at the end of the game who will sell you anything fantastic.

Creating Traps
What sets wizards apart most from the other character classes is traps. Remember that you can use the T key to set a trap, and you can set one on the run. You can also pick them up and move them (their weight is only 10). When facing a tough enemy, make sure you hit him first with a set of traps. Use invisibility to put them near his starting point, if you can.

You can only have a certain number of some spells in play at one time (for example, magic missiles can only exist in a quantity specified by your skill level at that spell). Therefore, putting a cluster of traps that include magic missile in one spot will be a waste. In fact, spreading traps out is a good idea if only to avoid one setting off another in chain reaction.
