Chapter Nine: Governments Democracy Growth: Average Pollution coefficient:
1 Featuring a much more appetizing crime and pollution coefficient, democracy can almost keep up with corporate republic in terms of gold and production and is nearly identical to the standard republic. One advantage democracy has over corporate republic, communism, and republic (quite similar styles, at least within the coefficients) is the 70 percent maximum gold allowed for science rate. Though that extra 10 percent doesn't seem like much on paper, any advantage you possess over other civilizations when it comes to research should be considered. Democracy also features the lawyer unit, an effective tool against production-happy rivals.
Growth: Good Pollution coefficient:
.25 Barely any pollution to speak of (but low production as well), the ecotopians place their emphasis on scientific advancement. A robust science coefficient coupled with the 80 percent gold allowed for scientific research usually means the ecotopian player will have a jump start over other styles when it comes to gaining new technology. Further, the ecotopia style features a few special wonders and advances, including the eco ranger, which can turn an enemy city into a harmless park. If research and covert warfare (particularly against pollutants) appeals to you, ecotopia isn't a bad choice and one that a player who has consistent pollution problems should consider.
