RR's Report

The Trojan War, part 2

Aulis4, Greece, 1202BC --- May the gods be praised that I was finally able to leave Tenedos and return home; may I never again have to spend 23 years in a military encampment. Nothing much seems to have changed here, including Hades's Sanctuary, left unfinished when we all upped sticks and moved to the Eastern Aegean. Rodentos, having fired his Deputy Incompetentenes, who he had unwisely left in charge of Aulis during his own absence, set about completing this fine building; it now stands guard over the main harbour, a warning to all who would challenge the power of Aulis.

We now also have a fully-functioning military. Good job too, as it was needed twice; first to rescue Tenedos from the Trojans, and then to save Lyrnessus. I couldn't help noticing Odysseus walking around the city too - I asked him why he had come to Aulis, and he maintioned that he was attracted by the leader's excellent populatiry, the excellence of the city's health, the 8 elite houses, 32 olive oil, and 16 wine. Heroes, eh? Always after the booze and the glory...

Pergamum, Eastern Aegean, 1196BC --- I just couldn't face traversing the Aegean again, so I'm afraid that all of this report will be made up of eyewitness accounts of what happened over there. From what I can gather, Mayor Rodentos once again escewed the large plateau, preferring instead to build his housing areas in the foothills, leaving the summit free for the 2 glorious Sanctuaries to Athena and Zeus.

While I was down at the docks, I noticed quite a bit of bronze and armor arriving, which had been requested from Rodentos in Pergamum. It's rumoured that sculpture, money and food were also requested, though not, as far as I can make out, by Aulis. Mention was also made to be of invading gods, with witnesses telling me they were glad that Athena was able to deal with them, her Sanctuary having been constructed in record time.

Aulis6, Greece, 1190BC --- The war is finally over! Troy has falled to our forces, the final coup de grace allegedly being delivered by a load of men inside some strange wooden horse. Whatever the niceties, the important thing is that forces from Aulis made the difference. After 2 unsuccessful attacks, Mayor Rodentos ordered that more triremes and Elite housing should be built. I can say with pride that I stood on thw quayside waving off the 6 hoplite companies and 6 triremes who were sailing away to join up with forces from Tenedos to launch the final asault on Troy.

People here are now satisfied, and both sides of the Aegean have been reconciled with each other. It is time for me, your reporter to file his final report from Aulis, and then to join the celebrations which are happening in the street outside his window.

--- End of file ---
