Greek Mythology

Greek mythology must be one of the better known in the Western world. Even people that didn't particularly study Greek history or mythology know many of the stories. Many of the stories are still told, used for movies or television series, or form the basis of expressions we use, sometimes without even knowing where they came from.

I dare say it's even better known as the Roman mythology. One of the few really Roman myths is the story of Romules and Remus, but most of them were retellings of the old Greek stories. The Romans borrowed the Greek pantheon and some of their myth cycles wholesale. Zeus became Jupiter, Ares became Mars, Heracles became Hercules and Odysseus ended up as Ulysses.
