Thebes after Victory , by SenetEr

City ID = 8
Date Submitted = 2000-10-29

Author's Description:

I decide to replay on Hero as Olympian was too slow of gameplay for me.

I am happy with this layout except for problems with Olives and Oil. I should have placed my presses closer to the groves but I wanted industries in the city proper.

I had planned for another elite block but the lava interrupted these plans. Turns out 3 blocks gave all elite companies except for 3 rabble companies.

I gridded the city into 15x19 cells and doubled the cells to 15x39 for the elite blocks. Most of the desirability comes from the boulevards. I don't know if the elite blocks would have evolved to estates without Aphrodites sanctuary increasing city-wide appeal.

The final battles to conquer the rivals was sort of a joke with the military I could throw. As soon as they came home, I'd send them straight back out. Never took many losses.

Didn't like the map from a sea coast point of view. There are a lot of sea trading partners and not many locales for Jason's triremes and all the piers once you put the bridges down. I especially don't like that you can't build on lava. Try pulling that one on the Hawaiins :)

This is an awsomely beautiful city! It's clear SenetEr spent a lot of time making this city better than the adventure required - nice population/treasury, too!

Well worth a look :).

Since I posted, I have learned that ships sail over bridges, so please disregard comments about the seacoast, etc... I still hate lava.
