CAlan-Athens , by Caesar Alan

City ID = 6
Date Submitted = 2000-10-28

Author's Description:

This is my final Athens city, saved just after opting to continue governing the city. My strategy was a largely pacific one, opting to bribe almost all the invasions. the only exception to this was the big Persian invasion, which I flattened with my six triremes.

Almost all of my income came from taxes in the parent city. I got in and out of the two colonies (Laurion first, Amphipolis second) reasonably fast. By keeping my tax rate on high and wages on normal for the majority of the opening period allowed me amass significant funds from episode 2 onwards. By the time I had established my elite housing in episode 4, the tribute payments were rolling in, and the tax income ensured a healthy annual profit.

The immense elite housing district provided me with an army so large I was able to conquer the entire world two cities at a time. I now actually have more than enough elite soldiers to fill the maximum number of allowed companies: 20. The elite housing area is fed mainly by tribute payments and a little imported food. It started off being entirely fed by tribute payments, which made for fewer distribution problems. The first two (closest to the entry point) blocks were established in Episode 4, with the third being added later, in episode 7. I settled for a mixture of cavalry and hoplites in my final army composition.

The block of townhouses is something of a mystery, given that the houses only have access to two Culture venues. I suspect it may have something to do with Apollo, but have yet to confirm this.

Addendum to the above: The townhouse 'mystery' has been solved: the necessary entertainment points are provided by our old friends the city coverage bonus points...

Thanks to Grumpus for pointing me in the right direction.

Very Impressive - Alan.

But, what impressed me the most, is the huge townhouse block up North.

Cann't believe you got it stabelized - nice, very nice..
