Thanks, Dad!, by GadgetDon

Adventure ID = 6
Date Submitted = 2001-03-12

Author's Description:

This adventure has you starting your career with a slight disadvantage. Your Dad managed to offend almost every God on Mount Olympus. (Note: Does not include audio narration)

I have no horse farms available, how do I get a hippodrome

I would like to echo what many have written here that Thanks, Dad! is a grand adventure with many surprises. The satisfaction one gets upon completion of the sanctuary to Zeus at the end is quite pleasing. Much fun! Keep them coming.

GadgetDon-

I finished your adventure this morning. Great adventure, with an interesting storyline. (I was particularly thrilled by the last episode, which finally provided me with a place to sell all of the wine I'd been producing!)

I freely admit I was thrown a bit by the lack of real estate in the main city. I had been trying to set aside some land for the elite housing I was expecting to need for the finale. You can imagine my surprise when the actual goal of the finale was revealed. (Fortunately, my reserved space was more than enogh for the job...)

My compliments on a job well-done.

GadgetDon-

Thanks for the tip. The adventure works fine now- no more "open play" madness!

I'll stop by once I finish the adventure to share my thoughts.

Wow! What and adventure. This dude was REALLY unlucky to have such a father. This kid's dad was a practical joker. His son really learned that the gods do not have a since of humor (that is unless they are playing practical jokes on us mortals). First Apollo was flinging flaming arrows around making everyone sick. Then hydra comes around several times. And these guys are not your lame passive invasions. This guys are planning to kick some mortal rear-end! You had best figure out a way to make them happy and quick, or you will be toast.

This is a great adventure. Those with some experience will really enjoy it. There is some military, but if you know what you are doing you can bribe your way around it. The story line is superb. Gadget Don has a winner here.

To avoid the Open Play Glitch mentioned here, copy the "thanksdad.pak" file into the Adventures folder.

GadgetDon-

Actually, yes- I did heed Dionysus' notice on the 8 sculpture= 32 sculpture pieces issue. (Fortunately, I had only produced 24 full sculptures- and managed to avoid Hephaestus in the bargain.)

I wonder... I imagine your version of your adventures have all files, including the map files (which would allow editing), right? I know you only need certain files in order to play the adventure- but I wonder if this bug happens with any adventure in which all files are not included (i. e., edit-proof adventures).

The thought came to me while playing "The Odyssey", which is not edit-proof (i. e., all files are provided).

Have you (or anyone else, for that matter) managed to finish an edit-proof adventure without this happening? (Hmm... do the adventures provided with the original game fit in this category? If so, there goes my theory...)

Just a thought...

I enjoyed the first three episodes of this adventure enormously- although I was alarmed when I learned I had to produce 32 pieces of sculpture in one year, in the third episode. (Hephaestes would pick this episode to assert his godhood...)

However, I ran into an oddity similar to one that has been posted under other episodes. When I restarted my game (gotta sleep, you know), the notes in the goal section had vanished; only the goals were listed here. Moreover, when I finished the episode, the victory screen popped up and then sent me to a blank, no-goals episode, without money, people, etc.

Am I doing something wrong, or is there something else at work here?

Please advise.

I have no idea what is causing this open play bug.

Uh, did you listen to what Dionysis said about the episode? Turns out that a production of 32 statues is actually only 8 statues. Each statue counts for 4. YAZB.
