1. When you enter the "Eye Tyrant Tunnels", you will immediately be attacked by 2 beholders. One of them is a regular beholder, and the other is an "Elder Orb". Kill the Elder Orb, and grab the "Eyestalk of Elder Orb", "Amulet of Spell Warding", and the "Blade of the Equalizer".

At this point, you are free to exit and then return to Ust Natha with the eyestalk. If you feel like staying and exploring the area, be warned... This place is dangerous.

2. As you begin to explore the area, you will encounter a group of Drow who are fighting a Beholder. Let them do the dirty work. Once they kill the Beholder, they will come for you.

3. Lurking near the center of the area is a group of 3 Beholders, and 2 Gauths. Not an easy fight to say the least. However, there is a trick that you can pull if you are quick enough. Check #4 for the details.

4. Just below the group of Beholders and Gauths, you will find another group of Beholders that are under attack from a group of Illithids. The Illithids will have no trouble dealing with the group, but it will take them a long time. Make it a bit more difficult for them... From area 2, summon a wizard eye and a few summoned monsters or animals. Cast haste on them all, and then send them streaking past the group of Beholders at location #3. If you are quick enough, you can attract the group at location #3 and have them meet up with the Illithids at location #4. The difficulty in this is that the Beholders at location #3 will unsummon your creatures most of the time. For this reason, it is a good idea to summon about 4 or 5 creatures and then send them in a long spaced-out line (about half a screen distance apart). Also, you may need to have one of your summons walk a little towards the Beholder group to get their attention. When the two groups collide, they will pretty much wipe each other out, with the Illithids coming out on top. You will need to clean up the leftovers.

Alternatively, you could sneak past both groups (at location #3 and #4).

5. At location #5, you will find another 5 Gauths. But these should not be too much trouble (no Beholders with them).

6. In the Beholder chamber, you need to locate an area on the wall where you can pick up items. Inside the wall in this room, you will find 5,000+ gold and a pile of Gems.

7. At location #7, you will find 2 Beholders and an Elder Orb. If for some reason the Elder Orb at the entrance did not drop any items, you will have a second chance here. A few people have told me that the Elder Orb at the entrance did not drop items for them.

Once you have the Eyestalk of an Elder Orb", head back to the Drow City and give it to the Matron Mother at the Temple.

Tips for dealing with Beholders

1. The best way is to go in swinging. Cast haste on your strongest fighters, and then send them in. If you have "Boots of Speed", it will make this much more effective (the haste effect from the boots can not be dispelled).

2. If you have the "Cloak of Reflection" (Rewarded in the Sahuagin City, at location 5), then you will be almost invincible from Beholder and Gauth attacks. Elder Orbs cast higher level spells, so the Cloak is only mildly effective against them. Anyway, put the Cloak on your strongest fighter, along with a pair of "Boots of Speed", and then send him/her in alone to take out all of the Beholders and Gauths. The spells cast will reflect off of your Cloak and return to the caster. Most of the time, Gauths will kill themselves before you can even get to them. A few Beholder spells will make it past your cloak (Slow, Mental Domination, etc), so you may want to have a cleric nearby just incase.

3. If you have a Clerical Character who can cast level 7 spells, and if they have the spell "Gate", have them use it. First cast "Protection from Evil 10' Radius" to protect your group from the Fiend. Summon the Fiend from just outside of the visual range of the Beholders. The Fiend will normally hold it's own against 2 Beholders. If you have an Elder Orb in the area, you can expect the Fiend to kill one Beholder, and damage another. If your Fiend manages to win the fight, you can kill it for a good amount of exp (tricky exp bonus ;p ).
