Chapter Three: General Combat Strategies

Choose Your Wars

Before jumping headfirst into a conflict with another civilization, consider the consequences, which won't necessarily just be the cost of supporting the war effort. For starters, allies of your new enemy will likely be aggressive toward you, and your overall reputation could suffer. The likelihood of future trade agreements with this new enemy also just crashed. Oh, and as just mentioned, you must support your military forces as well as keep the citizens at home from becoming too unhappy. War in Civilization: Call to Power is inevitable; as you progress through the ages, even if you try your hardest to maintain the peace, problems are sure to arise.

Choose your wars wisely; attempt to investigate how well fortified your enemy is before committing to an engagement. Most important, however, consider how going to war will help you, either with new resources, technology, or even winning the game. If you're heading toward a scientific win, and an enemy nation has been moving apace, causing some trouble within his most scientifically productive cities could assist you in keeping the lead (or getting the lead, for that matter). Going to war just to fight creates a difficult atmosphere in which to end the game successfully.
