Skills Guide (cont.)

Leather

Leather is the armor of choice for thieves because it provides protection without really slowing down a character. Of all armor types, it affords the least protection, but it doesn't add a big recovery penalty. By expert level, this penalty is eliminated. At the highest level, this armor skill even adds resistance bonuses to elemental magic. Thieves should wear this armor, and monks who have dodging grandmaster skill should also don leather armor. Other fighter classes are better off with chain or plate armor. This is the only armor a sorcerer can wear. Thieves can become grandmasters in this skill, while monks, rangers, archers, and paladins can become masters. However, the latter two can wear better armor at grandmaster level.

Normal level: Skill added to armor class
Expert level: Recovery penalty eliminated
Master level: Armor class bonus doubled
Grandmaster level: Skill added to elemental resistance (air, earth, fire, water magic)
Where you learn it: Armor shop
Where you upgrade to expert level: Withersmythe's Home, Harmondale; Deerhunter Residence, Avlee
Where you upgrade to master level: Neldon Residence, Mount Nighon
Where you upgrade to grandmaster level: Miyon's Home, Pierpont (Tularean Forest)

Light

Light magic, like dark, only becomes available in the later part of the game. Once you become a servant of good, the wizards in Celeste will teach you light magic, which offers the game's most powerful protection and healing spells. Only archmages, priests of light, heroes, and ranger lords can learn this skill. Archmages and priests of light can become grandmasters in light magic, while heroes and ranger lords are stuck at normal skill level.

Normal level: Effects vary per spell
Expert level: Effects vary per spell
Master level: Effects vary per spell
Grandmaster level: Effects vary per spell
Where you learn it: Castle Lambent, Celeste
Where you upgrade to expert level: Lightsworn Residence, Bracada
Where you upgrade to master level: Morningstar Residence, Celeste
