Skills Guide (cont.)

Disarm Trap

Disarm trap is a vital ability, as there are numerous trapped chests scattered about the lands. All trapped chests have a disarm rating. If your character's disarm skill level is higher than the trap rating, you successfully open the trap. If not, then the trap goes off. At higher levels, your greater hit points might let you escape serious damage, but if you have any sorcerers or other low hit-point characters in your party, you'll want to reduce trap damage as much as possible. For that reason, you want a thief in your party. Thieves can become grandmasters in disarm trap. At that level, disarming is automatic. Second to the thief is the ninja, who can become a master in disarm trap.

Normal level: Skill increases chance to disarm traps on chests
Expert level: Double effect of skill
Master level: Triple effect of skill
Grandmaster level: 100 percent success
Where you learn it: Inns
Where you upgrade to expert level: Taren's House, Tatalia; Fiddlebone Residence, Pierpont (Tularean Forest)
Where you upgrade to master level: Skinner's House, Harmondale
Where you upgrade to grandmaster level: Silk's House, Mount Nighon

Dodging

Dodging is a skill that is really only used by the monk. It lets you better your armor class with actually wearing armor. However, it cannot be used in conjunction with any armor until the grandmaster level. Even then, only leather armor may be used with it. For this reason, even those classes that can learn this skill, like knights and thieves, should be wary about doing so. Knights can get better armor earlier and shouldn't waste points on the dodging skill, Thieves can become grandmasters in leather, so it really isn't worth it for them either. If you use this skill, remember not to wear armor until grandmaster level. Only the monk can take this skill to grandmaster level. At this level, a monk with skill level 10, would get 30 bonus points to his armor class and can still wear leather armor.

Normal level: Skill added to armor class
Expert level: Effect doubled
Master level: Effect tripled
Grandmaster level: Skill is usable while wearing leather armor.
Where you learn it: Temples
Where you upgrade to expert level: Stone House, Bracada; Mist Manor, Harmondale
Where you upgrade to master level: Crane Residence, Evenmorn Island
Where you upgrade to grandmaster level: Wain Manor, Erathia
