Character Creation (cont.)

An Elemental Magic Spellcaster
Every party also needs an elemental magic spellcaster, but for a different reason. Elemental magic gives you the best attack and movement options in the game. Some monsters, most notably oozes, are only harmed by elemental magic. Elemental magic includes fireballs, lightning bolts, meteor swarms, flying blades, and other such lethal spells. An elemental magic spellcaster can decimate enemy creatures before they close to melee range, giving you much-needed firepower. Elemental magic also contains indispensable magic, such as jump and fly spells, water walking, and town portal. Some areas, like Bracada, cannot be properly traveled with a fly spell. Other areas, like Tidewater Caverns in Tatalia, cannot be reached with a water walking spell. Unless you can continue to shell out big bucks for expensive wands and scrolls, get a sorcerer, druid, or archer in your party. Each can progress to master level in elemental magic. The sorcerer can go to grandmaster level. You need at least one, or the going will be very slow in Might and Magic VII.

Good Long-Range Attacks
Every party member should be outfitted with a bow. Even if your characters cannot progress to master or grandmaster level with the bow, you should equip them anyway. There is no penalty for carrying a bow, and it lets you attack enemies from long-range. One enemy killed at long range is one less that can hurt you when the forces of evil manage to catch up to you.
