Town Guide (cont.)

Barrow Downs/Stone City

The Barrow Downs are the dwarven territories south of Harmondale. You must come here to get your castle fixed as well as fulfill a few other quests you receive in other parts of the game. The dwarven city of Stone City is also here, and it is the first dungeon city you'll encounter. You'll find it on a mountain in the middle of the map. At that point, you can simply enter and explore the dwarven city. You must also go through the dwarven city if you want to get to Mount Nighon, which is accessible via an underground tunnel that starts in Stone City. In this entry, we've combined Barrow Downs and Stone City, since one is located inside the other. However, to help you better determine whether an area or quest is in the Barrow Downs or Stone City, we've included the appropriate location in parentheses after each entry.

Areas and People of Note

Stone City: Stone City is a crowded settlement as fully functioning as any other city. King Hothfarr dwells there as well as several skills experts and masters. In addition, there is an obelisk and dungeon in the city as well as the Nighon tunnels that connect to Mount Nighon. To get to these tunnels, you must travel through the troglodyte catacombs in the bottom of the city. Stone City lies in the middle of the map, but to get there, you must first travel west across a bridge and then south, up a mountain, and then head across a second bridge. You'll see a castle on the other side of the bridge. This is Stone City. These directions assume you are coming from Harmondale.

To get to Stone City, travel east and then south across bridges. Stone City lies above ground.

Barrow Dungeons (Barrow Downs): The Barrow Dungeons are a series of small dungeons that lie below ground in the Barrow Downs. There are 15 barrow dungeons and one tomb, Zokarr's Tomb. Before you can have free reign of the barrows, you must find three keys in three barrows. The first barrow you can enter is Barrow IX, whose entrance lies on the top of the mountain south of the inn in the northeast of the map. You'll find a key inside this barrow. It unlocks the way to another barrow, Barrow VII. When you arrive in Barrow VII, you must find another key, which unlocks the way to Barrow X. When you get inside Barrow X, you'll find a third key. Once you find this third key and put it in the lock, you can travel freely between the barrow dungeons.

The barrow dungeons are infested by gogs, rats, bats, ghosts, shades, wights, and skeletons. The barrow dungeons are the destination for three quests: two you receive from Harmondale and one you receive from the Tularean Forest. One is to go to Barrow II and retrieve the lantern of light. The second quest is the monk to initiate promotion that calls for you to go to the site of power in Zokarr's Tomb. The third is the great druid to arch druid promotion quest that calls for you to return Zokarr's skull to his tomb.
