Town Guide (cont.)

Dragon Cave: The dragon cave is in the northeast of the island. It is essential for two quests, the scavenger hunt and the missing contestants. A long bow, one of the items in the scavenger hunt, is in the entrance of the cave. A large shield, all that remains of an adventuring party that ventured into the cave, is also inside the entrance. You must recover that and return it to Lord Markham to complete the missing contestants quest. Inside the cave is the dragon itself (you have no hope of defeating it) as well as a few giant and lightning rats. There is various gold and items strewn about the cave floor, and to retrieve it, you must run around, avoiding the dragon's breath while picking up the treasure.

Dragonfly infested hut: There is a hut in the northwest part of the town that holds four chests. It will help you on your scavenger hunt quest because one of the chests has a seashell, one of the items necessary for completing the scavenger hunt. There is also plenty of treasure here. However, it is guarded by a gigantic nest of serpent and dragonflies. In fact, from the north of the town, there is a trail that leads to the hut, but along the entire way, from the beginning of the trail to the hut itself, is a gauntlet of flies you must run. They are pretty tough for a low-level party, so you must inch forward killing a few flies and then run back to the healer, repeating the process until you eventually make your way to the hut. Alternatively, you can lure the dragon flies into the town, where the town guards will fight them for you. Several villagers will die as a result, but you can take their gold and any items they have on them. (This is actually a good way to get Mr. Malwick's fireball wand without having to owe him - get a dragonfly to kill him and then loot his corpse).

Mr. Malwick: This NPC presents you with an intriguing offer. He hangs around the alchemy shop and appears as a black-haired, bearded man wearing worn a worn grey shirt. He offers you assistance in the form of a wand of fireballs. This wand will help you immensely in the beginning of the game, but if you take it, you will be indebted to the mercenaries of Tatalia, whom Mr. Malwick apparently serves. You can turn down the offer and nothing will happen. However, if you take the wand, sometime in the future, the mercenaries will call in a favor. The wand can be used by anyone in your party and shoots fireballs, which damage everything within a radius. Be careful not to shoot it at enemies that are close to you, or you will be hurt by the blast as well. If you want to take the wand without incurring the mercenaries' debt, lure the dragonflies by the tent to this part of town and let them kill him. Then, loot his corpse and take the wand.
