Skills Guide (cont.) Perception This skill might not seem like much, but at high skill levels, it becomes very useful. If you have perception, it could save you a lot of frustration when you must find secret doors in winding dungeons. Perception actually has two benefits. It lets you dodge sprung traps and also spot secrets. On the trap front, if your trap disarmer fails to disarm a trapped chest, those characters with perception have a chance to jump out of the way of the trap. The higher the skill, the more likely the dodge. Levers or doors will glow red if your perception score is high enough to detect a door. Otherwise, you'll fumble around for a long while before you accidentally hit a switch. Normal level:
Skill increases chance to avoid traps and notice treasures Plate Plate armor is the very best protection you can afford. However, it also has the worst recovery penalty. Quite a few characters cannot wear plate, and it is really only designed for the sturdiest of fighters. Knights can progress to grandmaster level in this skill, while paladins can become masters. You'll want to quickly move up the expertise levels with plate so you can cut down the recovery penalty of this armor type. Normal level:
