Character Creation (cont.)

Promotion
Wizard: Becoming a wizard is essential, for it not only gives you more hit points and spell points, but more importantly, it lets you take your magic skills to master level. To get promoted to this level, you must speak to Thomas Grey in the School of Sorcery in Bracada. He tells you he can promote you if you can build a golem and bring it back to him. There are six golem parts scattered about the continent. There are two heads in Bracada, one torso in the Barrow Downs, two legs in Deyja, an arm in Avlee, and an arm in Tatalia. Once you find the head, you'll see it in your party as an NPC. Click on it to put all the pieces together. When you finish, go to Thomas Grey, and he will promote you to wizard. The golem will now be yours to command, and the next time you return to Castle Harmondale, it will be patrolling the inside of your castle. However, be careful which head you use. The first head you'll find is in a chest near the cluster of teleport pads of Bracada. It is slightly dented and is defective. If you use this head, the golem will attack you when you return to the castle. Use the good head, which is in a chest next to the two towers above the Bracada stables. You'll need a fly spell to get up there or several well-timed jump spells.

Archmage: To become an archmage, you must speak to Thomas Grey again. The archmage gets more spell points, can become a grandmaster in elemental magic, and can learn light magic. Thomas Grey's quest is for you to break into the Breeding Zone in the Pit of Deyja and retrieve the Book of Divine Intervention, the most powerful light spell in the entire game. First, you must get past the Hall of the Pit and then the Pit itself, before you arrive in the Breeding Zone. Immediately after entering the Pit, go right, and you'll see a staircase leading down into the zone. Inside the zone are fire elementals, gogs, and behemoths. You must run through two winding caverns in the west of the dungeon to open a secret door with the Book of Divine Intervention inside. Run out the door you came in and don't fall in the sewers in the north, or you'll get stuck fighting a gauntlet of behemoths. Return the book to Thomas Grey, and you'll become an archmage.

Lich: The vile counterpart to the archmage is the lich. To be turned into a lich, talk to Halfgild Wynac in the Pit. He tells you that you need a soul jar first to house your undying soul. This quest is a mirror image of the archmage quest. To retrieve the soul jars, you must enter the Walls of Mist in Celeste. First, you must battle through the city and then enter the dungeon of the Walls of Mist. Inside are air elementals, sorcerers, and genies. The best thing to do is open the chest inside the small dungeon, get the soul jars, and teleport back to the Pit. When you return to Wynac, he will turn your sorcerers into liches. You'll actually become undead and gain the same immunities and resistances as a real lich. The downside is you must carry your soul jar with you or never regain more than 50 percent of you hit points.
