This is a very small area that you must enter in order
to exit the city of Athkatla. There isn't much to do here, except visit
the "Crooked Crane". Inside the Crooked Crane, you can locate a powerful sword,
and have a chance to fight a Lich. Helpful
Hint! If you have
been unable to exit the city to other locations on the world map, it is
because you need to cross through the Gates area first. (1)
The Crooked Crane Q =
There is a good chance that you will encounter a couple of men named Flydian
and Delon while you are crossing through the Gates area. Each of them
will have a separate quest for you. Both are optional, and it is totally
up to
you if you accept or not. Flydian has been sent by Lord
Logan Coprith, the High Merchant of Trademeet. It seams as if they are
having a bit of trouble in Trademeet, and
Flydian would like your
assistance with the problem. If you choose to accept this quest, Flydian
will mark the location of Trademeet on your World Map. Delon
has come seeking assistance in Umar Hills. Apparently, they have
been having some problems, and require "True Warriors" to
assist them. Q
= With the other encounters that you may happen across in the Gates
District, you may also meet a lady names Salia. She will be speaking
with a couple Shadow Thieves Guild Members, asking them to join her. If you kill
the Shadow Thieves, you can pickup a note with a little more info
on it. If you did not meet Valen to receive the "Alternative to
Chapter 2", then you can get it from this note. Follow up: You can play
out the Avlava and Tiiro situation (inside the Crooked
Crane) if you like, but that is up to you.
However, if you stand idle in the upper right corner of the first level
of the tavern, you will discover a secret door. Inside the door awaits
an "Ancient Lich". Entering this area "awakens" him,
and he is in a bad mood. Even if completely prepared for the fight, the
Lich will flatten the strongest of groups in a matter of seconds. His use of the
"Time Stop" spell will allow him to dominate. If you choose to
attack the Lich, do so at your own risk. Also:
Behind the Lich is a locked chest. Inside the chest is the powerful
sword "Daystar". If you are unable to fight the Lich for the
sword, try to steal it. If Yoshimo is in your group, have him use his
stealth ability, and run in to grab the sword. The Lich will not detect
you as long as you are invisible (stealth etc). Grab the sword and then
exit the area. If Minsc is in your group, hand him this sword. He is
very effective with it, and the Sunray spell that this sword casts will
allow Minsc to deal magic damage to large groups of undead. |
