After exiting
the Dungeon, you will find yourself in the city of Athkatla. A
small plot thickening "event sequence" will involve the capture
of Imoen. Your objective at this point should be to rescue her.
However, before you can do that you need to check out the city. Begin
with the shops and the locals. There are a lot of different shopkeepers
in the area. The last place that you should check is the Circus
Tent in the
center of the area.

Follow
up: In the Den of the Seven Vales, on the second floor, you will run
into a group of Mercenaries lead by a Dwarf named Mencar Pebblecrusher.
He will be very hostile towards you. You can quickly back down from him
and exit the area, or you can stand up to him. If you do stand up to
him, Mencar and his gang will attack you. This is a tough fight, so be
prepared. [Note: a Stink Cloud spell cast
in the center of the room will normally knock the whole gang out long
enough for you to pick a few of them off]. Brennan Risling may attempt
to escape at the end of the fight. If you do not use a spell that is
capable of stunning him, he will exit the room. It is up to you if you
want to allow him to escape or not.
You
should gain a great deal of exp off of each one of the Mercenaries.
Further, most of them have valuable items.
Mencar
Pebblecrusher: Full Plate Mail, War Hammer +1, and normally a large
amount of gold.
Smaeluv
Orcslicer: Hide Armor, Cursed Berserking Sword +3.
Sorcerous
Amon: Cloak of Non-Detection, Gold and Gems, and a Wand.
Brennan
Risling: Studded Leather Armor +1, Short Sword +1, Ring of
Invisibility.
Once
the fight is over, you can check the 3 locked chests, but be warned....
One of them is heavily trapped.
Ok,
after you have explored the Promenade, head for the Circus
Tent in the center.
Before you enter it... A boy by the name of Giran will be standing
outside. Speak to him to learn a little information about the tent, and
about his mother. You will gain a new quest. Now, speak with the Amish
Guard outside the tent. He will allow you to enter if you feel that you
are up to the task.
Once
you have finished in the Circus Tent, head for the exit, and make your
way to the Slums. This is the end of Chapter one.
