ABP Posting Guidelines

These are the original posting guidelines for the newsgroup alt.books.pratchett. Never regularly posted they were mostly designed to give people an idea what the group was for. They are here mostly for historical completeness.

Also note that some of the conventions in this document are late 1995 early 1996 afp conventions which are somewhat *different* to current practice.

alt.books.pratchett Posting Guidelines.
 -------------------------------------------------

alt.books.pratchett was created as a quiet place for fans to discuss the work
of author Terry Pratchett. It is a cafe to alt.fan.pratchett's local pub.

Contents.
What can I post to alt.books.pratchett?
What about following up an article with a comment
                that is not strictly relevant?
Cross posting between AFP and ABP.
AFPA - the common notice board.
		Annotations.
What do to if someone breaks the rules.

WHAT CAN I POST TO ALT.BOOKS.PRATCHETT?

Unlike alt.fan.pratchett it is asked that all initial (or new) posts to
alt.books.pratchett be "relevant". A post is also considered new if you
have to change the header.

	Relevant includes.

Anything about the books, maps, plays discworld, the computer
games, films and television shows is relevant.

	Everything else isn't.

There should be no need for *R* or *I* markers on alt.books.pratchett.

WHAT ABOUT FOLLOWING UP AN ARTICLE WITH A COMMENT THAT
        IS NOT STRICTLY RELEVANT?

The difficult issue of posting irrelevancies has been tackled in the
following way. It is okay to follow up a relevant article with something
that might not be considered relevant, but, if you want to follow up an
irrelevant article with another irrelevant article then we ask that you move
your discussion to alt.fan.pratchett

If an irrelevant follow up is connected in some logical way to the previous
relevant post then no one will be particularly concerned.

CROSS POSTING BETWEEN AFP and ABP.

The rule is simple. If it is irrelevant, post it to alt.fan.pratchett with
the modified header *I*. We suggest against cross posting if only because people
following up tend to forget that the article will go to both groups.

As a rule no one on either side is going to be too upset if you crosspost
relevant stuff. A long cascading irrelevant thread about "He Man and the Masters
of the Universe" cross posted to both groups is probably going to annoy some people.

AFPA - the common notice board.

If you have something you want announced to the newsgroup - submit it to AFPA
mailto:afp-mod@eniac.demon.co.uk

This is especially useful for organising fan meets. Details of signing tours are
posted here as well as other "formal" documents.

AFPA serves as a "notice board" of important events/information for the
pratchett groups.

	ANNOTATIONS.

If you want to post an annotation to abp for inclusion in a future version of the
Annotated Pratchett File then you should add the header *A* or [ANNOT] in your subject line.

WHAT TO DO IF SOMEONE BREAKS THE RULES.

If someone appears to be consitantly posting irrelevant gibberish to alt.books.pratchett
it is the responsibility of all subscribers to politely email the offender and point
them at this document.

I stress the term politely and email - please don't follow up a post with another "hey you
shouldn't" post. If we all are on the watch it means that a small group of us don't have to
feel like net.cops or old whiners.
