pyramid.jpg (1125 bytes) Egypt has recently signed treaties with Tyre and Enkomi, and is negotiating with Knossos. To maintain relations with new our allies and expand our influence further to the North, we need a new city built on the island of Cyprus as soon as possible.

Pharaoh has decreed that the name of this city shall be New Toshka, in memory of the glorious victory which started Egypt's expansion southward. New Toshka should start our expansion to the North, and this time not warfare, but skilled craftsmen and traders will pave the way. New Toshka must be a very profitable city.

Gods have blessed the western valley of Cyprus with a fertile meadow and plentiful papyrus reeds, which normally don't grow that far to the North. And Bast, herself, resting on the coast, has created an island in the shape of a hand, that will allow you to reach this valley.

The beginnings will be hard, since the land is wild and bandits harass the trail from Enkomi... Let's hope that Partheos, King of Enkomi, will deal with them soon. At least, that is what he promised us when we agreed to his condition that no foreign army may ever be stationed on the Cyprus. Partheos' advisor, who visited Egypt last year, was amazed by our buildings of bricks - it seems that although Cyprus has all the raw materials, the people have not yet discovered how to produce bricks. That is one of your opportunities for making a profit! And of course, Pharaoh will have some requests of you; I know you will not disappoint him.

Storms and pirates make the sea trade difficult, but New Toshka should be able to turn a nice profit once trade relations with all the cities are established. Although the partners may be a little hesitant to buy Egyptian goods at first, I am sure they will soon be impressed by the fine linen and papyrus you produce and show a change in attitude.

It is vital that New Toshka prospers soon, so that all our allies see the benefits of Egyptian rule. Wise Pharaoh's advisors think that some of these cities may decide to become part of the Egyptian Empire later, or at least its vassals. Care for culture in the city, produce fine goods and sell them, and make New Toshka a city that will long be remembered. Pharaoh is confident that you are the right governor for this job. Don't disappoint him!

Good luck to you!
