Fish
have always been eaten for variety in the Egyptian
nation, while grain, meat and fruit were the main foods.
Egypt has recently recovered, thanks to fishing, from
a famine after several years of bad floods. To celebrate
this occasion, as well as to make sure that the new
Ministry of Fishing will be in the right hands, Pharaoh
has announced a great fishing tournament.
Contenders
for the highly regarded post of Minister will have
to prove in this competition that they can establish
and manage a prosperous fishing city that can not only
feed its own citizens, but also earn enough money from
fish exports to import any goods its citizens desire.
Pharaoh will request fish from time to time from all
the contenders and those who comply promptly will be
rewarded with higher export prices than those who won't
- not speaking about those who would ignore his requests
altogether!
You
hoped for some additional income from papyrus, but
unfortunately, the Guild of Papyrus Makers refused to
send any masters, and apprentices are not skilled enough
to produce exportable goods. Woodcutters laughed and
derided you when they heard of the bushes growing in
the marshy areas nearby and refused to accompany your
immigrants. So, it has to be fish, and maybe some raw
materials. Oh, well, be consoled that other contenders
found themselves in the same situation.
Before
you departed for the Nile Delta, you had a very
unpleasant encounter with one of your rivals. He attempted
to bribe you to cancel your participation in the competition,
and when he saw that you would not give up, he resorted
to threats. Judging from the fact that two of the other
contenders did withdraw at the last minute, you were
not the only one to have had the "pleasure"
to meet him. He has a terrible reputation as a ruthless
fighter, and some people say he is connected in one
way or the other with pirates who plague the Nile Delta.
It would not be wise to underestimate him...
Good
luck to you!
