pyramid.jpg (1125 bytes) The hated Hyksos are expanding from the North and are once again trying to move into Upper Egypt. The previous capital, Men-Nefer is still Egyptian, but its Nomarch, Hepbentof, is hurt by Pharaoh's decision to move the capital. He may be seeking to profit from an alliance with the powerful enemy. We suspect Hepbentof is planning to turn against our mighty ruler and is even now trying to "negotiate" with the Nomarch of Meidum. It is rumored he is holding his son as a hostage.

The Nomarch of Meidum is dedicated to Pharaoh and it is very likely the traitor will fail in his attempt. If he cannot convince him by guile, Hebentof's next step is almost sure to be an invasion ... and if his new ally, the Hyksos, will lend him some troops, he is bound to have success and conquer Meidum.

Next target of this foul alliance will then be your city, Menat Khufu. Prepare your defenses well, and do it while you can! Combined attacks of trained and battle-experienced Egyptian soldiers and the wild Hyksos warriors on their dreaded chariots will be hard to fend off. Because of the war, you will have no contact with cities that could sell you stone to build fortifications. But you can use the old fortress, however, and transform its fortifications into towers. It is very likely that your fortress and other cities will be besieged, and all trade will stop during those perilous times. Be ready for it, and have enough cash and goods in reserve. Although we know of your situation, in case of an emergency Pharaoh may ask you for some troops. You should not hesitate, since a victory in any battle can make your defense easier. Waset has started production of weapons and chariots, but as most of it is needed to equip Pharaoh's army, you will only be able to buy small amounts for very high prices.

But wait, there is more I need to tell you. We know there are deposits of copper ore to the south of the old fortress. This is good news, but the bad news is that this ore is behind a canyon with the only remaining forest in the area blocking the way. We can hardly use the ore effectively without clearing a great part of the forest first.

Menat Khufu may fall if the attacks continue for too long, but every month you can hold off the invaders is valuable for the Egyptian nation. We need time to rebuild the entire army. If you can survive the attacks for 7 years, we will be able to stop the invaders; if you can hold them off for 13 years, our army will be strong enough to reclaim the lost territory. Your task is difficult, but if you succeed, you will be remembered for always as the general who stopped the Hyksos and made possible the victory of Egypt in this war!

Good luck to you!

  • Message of granite price increase each December is reminder to save; has nothing to do with game play.
  • First invasion of Egyptian army comes at the end of year AD 3, first invasion of the Hyksos in year AD 5.
  • Palace, mansion, recruiter and walls (and other buildings) are disabled. You can build towers over existing walls, but once the walls are destroyed, you can not rebuild them.
  • Recruiter must be standing in final submission. It is possible to save for submittal just before invaders destroy recruiter, but we have to see it was really intact in the moment of saving the game.
  • The game can be saved for submittal at any moment between the two dates inclusive. A game submitted before Dec 6 is invalid; also game will end with defeat after Dec 12 - make sure you save long enough before end of month for us to see your city.
  • For more information see appropriate event FAQ in the Competition Corner.
