Desc: Not tested for possible victory. This scenario is inspired by excavations made on the so called Gask ridge. It seems that prior to Hadrian's Wall the Romans tried to keep a foothold further to the north near Perth. It is considered the first and northernmost limes-type of strategic defensework. For more info: go here. The story for this scenario is that you are a former rival of the new emperor Trajan, who wants you to fail and he knows just the place to get rid of you unnoticed, the northernmost fringe of the empire: the Gask ridge. Pestered by still unsubdued Brigantes and the threat of Pict invasions ever present you got only one option; build up an army quickly and fortify your city on all sides. Remember well that Trajan is not on your side, he needs your legions for his Dacian campaigns and your failure will give him just the excuse he needs to abandon this cold and hostile province. After the Dacian wars Trajan loses interest in your fate but the riches he confiscated in Dacia have a nasty effect on the price you can get for your goods, therefore you'll need a large taxpaying population to finance the cost of your defenses. Hadrian, who succeeds Trajan in 117, shares his predecessor's contempt for you, so don't expect him to be any easier on the demands made of you. Starting conditions: Rank: Engineer. Date: 98AD.
