Creator: Bob the Lethargic Scenario: Capreae

Desc:

Capreae - Tiberius Retires

"I'm fed up with Rome! This city is turning me into a stressed out old man." As you look at your reflection during your morning lavations, you barely recognize the man who was crowned Emperor only seven years ago. The demands of running the Empire and keeping the citizens of Rome content have been a heavy burden. You can already visualize the inscription on your grave.

"IMP Tiberius Claudius Nero Caesar H S E He came to Rome and it killed him."

Just then your great nephew Gaius Germanicus walks in.

"Caligula, my dear nephew. I'm glad to see you this morning. I have been thinking and have just come to a decision. I'm going to retire to Capreae!"

"Retire uncle? Have the gods taken leave of your senses? No Emperor has ever given up the title before. Besides Capreae is nothing more than a small island with only smelly fishermen and farmers."

"Not that type of retirement Caligula. I meant to say that I am moving my permanent residence to Capreae. I plan to build up that small little island into a prosperous resort with grand villas. With no enemy threats, natives, or wild animals to deal with it should be rather easy to do. And the island scenery is beautiful compared to the sprawling masses of Rome. I'm tired of citizens complaining about not enough entertainment, not enough food, cart pusher whines, lazy market buyers, negligent prefects, barbarian hordes, angry gods, legion revolts, and the occasional stray wolf pack. It's Capreae for me!"

"I disagree uncle. I believe the island is too small and remote for what you plan. How would you keep control of the Empire from there? There are many influential men such as Sejanus who might attempt to take over the throne if you were not present in Rome. Why not just take a short vacation there instead?"

"No, my mind is made up. Call in the servants and have them pack. Meanwhile I have to build a bridge."

Can you make Capreae the highly prosperous Roman resort that Tiberius did?
