Desc: The Birth and Death of the Roman Republic
The Birth and Death of the Roman Republic is a multi-scenario
career that spans a thousand year period from the beginning
of the first millenium BC to the collapse of the Roman
republic from the viewpoint of Rome. All landscapes are as
close to reality as is possible and all events are authentic
for the time periods described.
1. The Two Hills
Although the site of Rome was occupied as early as the Bronze
Age c.1500 BC, continuous settlement did not take place until
the beginning of the first millenium BC. By the 8th century BC
separate villages of various iron-using Indo-European peoples
populated the Palatine Hill and later the Aventine Hill. The
area at this time was an isolated agricultural region that
consisted of diverse cultural groups such as the Latins and
the Sabines that existed alongside each other in volatile
tolerance.
Wolf packs roam the hills and the lack of any military or
police means that they may cause a problem, though I am sure
that you will work out a solution to this problem. The heathens
populating the hills have not yet descovered the benefit of
worshiping the gods and their building skills are limited to
small shacks, but the local natives are willing to trade so it
should be fairly easy to build a thriving community.
