Desc: THE MARIUS CAMPAIGNS (104 - 101 B.C.)
ASSIGNMENT #2: GARRISON ON THE PO, 103 B.C.
Congratulations, Gaius Marius! You have been victorious in battle against the Teutoni of Germania Superior. Unfortunately, however, your co-Consul, Cinna, has not fared as well in Northern Italy.
Mustering his forces along the River Po, Cinna has failed to drive back the migrating Cimbri -- another German tribe streaming en masse towards Italy. In fact, the one fort he managed to build north of the Po panicked and deserted when they saw the great horde of Germans they were expected to fight!
This is the news that awaits as you return to Rome for your triumphal procession, but we in the Senate beg you: delay your plans to receive this honor, send word to your troops to assemble in the Po Valley, and travel north at once to deal with this terrible threat.
As before, you won't be building a major city here, just a military garrison. Although a considerable treasury has been raised to assist you this time out, you may still need extra cash. Be advised that selling weapons may not be your best plan. As the German threat to Italy widens, the Senate will be calling on your for both weapons and troops.
You will be victorious on the Po if your garrison achieves a population of 2800 within seven years, along with an imperial favor rating of 90. Only a rating of ten in each of the other areas is expected.
We in the Senate watch with bated breath. May the Gods defend us against this German invasion!
** NOTE #1: THESE LEVELS ARE MEANT TO BE PLAYED WITH ROAD-BUILDING DISABLED. THIS IS NOT A MISTAKE. ROMAN ENGINEERS HAVE ALREADY SURVEYED THE AREA AND THEY HAVE PROVIDED THE NECESSARY ROAD GRID, ACCORDING TO ROMAN MILITARY SPECIFICATIONS.**
** NOTE #2: IT IS POSSIBLE TO WIN THIS SCENARIO BEFORE THE CIMBRI ACTUALLY INVADE. TO ENJOY ITS FULL MILITARY COMPONENT, YOU MAY HAVE TO DELAY YOUR PROMOTION BY 5 YEARS. **
