Empire Area:
Mediolanum
Rank:
Proconsul
Goals to Win:
Culture: 70, Prosperity: 25, Peace: 100, Favor: 100, Population: 10,000
This is a very strong scenario that nicely combines economy management,
city-building, and significant military operations to keep its governor
hopping. I admit, I was turned off by the title, since I was afraid
this was going to be another unimaginative situation with nothing more
to expect than tons of armies pouring in. Far from it. The author
has done some imaginative planning of his attacks, lulling you into
complacency, then taking you by surprise. The invasions build at a
good pace.
His map also has lots of interesting features to it, which makes
the city planning a real pleasure. My one complaint: The culminating (or,
I guess "ultimate") battle with the Carthaginians is quite difficult
to deal with until you know it's coming, and then you plan for it
by making unrealistic choices (I'm trying not to give too much away here).
Suffice it to say the author makes you choose between farmland and walls
(nice touch, that), but all you have to do is delay the choice until
Hannibal has had his day. Then there's nothing to do but sit
around and tinker with your city...
Still, this is a scenario I recommend strongly. A good download you
won't regret spending many hours with.
