Pnut's Personal Challenge level: 2.0
Because of creator oversights, all 5 categories but the Story were most likely affected by a decrease of 0.5 to 1.0 on the 1-5 scale. (For those of you interested, it is probably easy to fix)
General overview: An average northern province. Rome provides food, so housing size is limited (which isn't a problem), Good trading (Tarentum, Capua, Syracusae, Massilia, Narbo). No real challenges from the Emperor, only a few at the beginning of the game. One invasion that cannot get to the body of the map, so the point is moot. You build from scratch, no buildings off limits.
Required by Caesar:
Culture -------- 40
Prosperity ----- 30
Peace ---------- 35
Favor ---------- 70
Population ---- 5500
What made it fun: Some may disagree, but I liked the challenge of getting water to my city...something new for me! A scenario that the creator could have much fun changing the requirements for the player while leaving the terrain/layout the same. A decent land layout.
What detracted from the fun: Unfortunately there were 2 oversights (should be easily corrected by the creator) which hampered the cleanness of the game. The wolves, invaders and the natives were blocked from the main body of the map. The invaders are cut off from the main island (perhaps the creator meant to have a bridge there) making them no threat at all. The stairs leading to the wolves and natives on the main island are blocked by trees so they do not have any effect on the scenario. Luckily I did not need to trade with them to win. Lengthy waiting to get the favor requirement.
What makes it unique: Rome provided food, so no need for a granary. Trying to find enough jobs for people was a constant challenge, one that is very different from most scenarios I've played.
My personal wishes: Replay it after the "blocks" in the terrain (that I mentioned above) are fixed; it will make it a completely new game! I would suspect those of you who like to fight off wolves would enjoy this (once fixed). Have many more requests from the emperor, there are only a few at the beginning of play only. I'm not sure if this scenario would be more or less enjoyable with more invasions...hmmm?
I wonder if the creator tried the scenario without Rome providing food? Was it too easy/hard? This might be a good one to make small changes to and make a whole new and exciting map!
