The Shadow
Dragon: If you have the "Shadow Dragon Ward Stone",
you can simply pass right through this area and on to the Shade Lord.
However, if you do not have the stone (or if you just want to take on
the Shadow Dragon for sport (suggested)), you will need to prepare for a big
fight. As soon as you enter this area, and after you save your game,
begin casting all of your
"before combat" spells. Summon any animals, spiders, or
elementals that you can, and have your spell casters cast all their beneficial
spells on the party. One spell that is important to use is
"Haste". Once
you have cast all of your spells, move on out to the center of the room.
Do this quickly... Try to surround the Dragon with your fighters and
with your summons. This way, the Dragon will be unable to knock everyone
back with one hit. Also, the Dragon likes to "unsummon" your
animals just as the fighting begins. Having them scattered helps with
keeping them on the battle field. Once
you have surrounded the Dragon (and if you did it quick enough), you
will need to "manually" attack. Do this by selecting your
troops, clicking the attack button, and then clicking on the Dragon.
Sometimes the Dragon will speak with you and then begin counter
attacking, and sometimes the Dragon will just stand there... Go figure.
However... Most of the time, the Dragon will stand there for the first
round of combat, and then he will begin to counter attack. The
key to this fight is to take advantage at the beginning of the fight
(while the Dragon is not hostile). You can get in at least a round or 2
of free hits before the Dragon notices you. If you have your fighters
Hasted, this can add up to a lot of damage. When
the Dragon dies, it will drop a lot of valuable Gems, "Crom
Faeyr Scroll" (instructions to make the Crom Faeyr Hammer), and
a pile of "Shadow Dragon Scales" (can be used to make
armor). The
Shade Lord: After passing the Shadow Dragon and when you exit to the
surface, you will run directly into the Shade Lord. After a small
discussion, the fighting begins. Ignore everything else, and concentrate
on the Shadow Alter. Bringing it down will bring down the
Shadows, leaving you with the Shadow Lord only. This fight should be an
easy one for you (unless the Shadow Dragon worked you over). When the
Shadow Lord dies, he will drop a few valuable Gems and the Cloak of
Stars. Shadow Patrick will drop the "Duskblade" and
"Darkmail +3". Follow
up: Once you have finished off the Shadow Lord, return to Umar Hills
and speak with Minister Lloyd for your quest rewards. You will get the
"Night's Gift +5" Leather Armor, and a reputation point
increase. |
