The Barracks is used to group creatures into armies that will travel together, following a designated leader. Drop in a group of creatures (the bigger the Barracks, the bigger your army can be) then cast Possess Creature on your chosen leader (Orcs are the most efficient - if you have one, make it the leader). The other creatures will follow you around. This makes it a somewhat effective replacement for the rather expensive Call to Arms spell - and a more strategic means of combat than simply picking minions up and dropping them into the fray.

Note that many creatures will not group. Natural Enemies should not be placed together, and Horned Reapers will not follow any leader.
