Once again, that time has come round again. It's the (approximately)
monthly reminder about the AFP Recipe Archives.
The AFP Recipe Archives
=======================
Once upon a time, there was a thread on AFP about favourite
foodstuffs. And for once, the recipes were not all about bread or beer
(No, I didn't believe it either!)
After a while, it became a bit of a chore to follow the various splits
in the thread, and the archives were mooted after a conversation along
the lines of:
"We should find some way of collecting all these recipes"
"Good idea, who's going to do it"
At this point, Mark Lowes and myself had a little discussion about it.
He won, and the task fell to me :-)
So, the archive was created, along with a simple set of instructions
on how to access it, and a few recipes were made available.
Accessing the archive
---------------------
To find out what's available on the archives, simply send an email to
<recipe-serv@lspace.org>
with the Subject line
^^^^^^^
send index
This will automatically generate an up to date list of all files
available.
Instructions on how to request an individual file are given at the end
of the index.
Please note: Due to the current state of my Server software (Beta), it
is only possible to request a single file per message.
If you want to request more files, this must be done in separate
messages.
Also, could people requesting recipes please ask for no more than 10
in any one mailbatch. There are technical reasons for this on my
machine, more are possible, but just a nuisance...
# Spam-Trapped email addresses
# ----------------------------
#
# Over the last few months, I've noticed that the archives keep getting
# requests using mangled email addresses.
#
# Since the process of serving recipes is fully automated here, no
# attempt is made to un-mangle these addresses. Hence, people using this
# form of email address will NOT receive any messages back.
#
# PLEASE can people note that mangled addresses are not appropriate for
# email, and more importantly they cause unnecessary waste of bandwidth
# in bounce messages.
Comments about the recipes
--------------------------
Comments on the recipes are always welcome, and should be directed to
me via <recipe-owner@lspace.org>. These will be examined in the
minutest detail, and those passing strict guidelines (Mwahahaha!!!)
will be included with the recipes. Also in hand is a new index
commenting on the popularity of each recipe...
Submitting a new recipe
-----------------------
To submit a recipe to the archive, and this is something that will be
appreciated by many, you simply send an email to
recipe-submit@lspace.org
with any subject line you want.
The recipe can be long or short, a snack or a full meal, a drink
(alcoholic or otherwise). Anything goes!
The body of the message should contain the recipe, and for copyright
purposes it should also state a source (no, not sauce!). So, if it
came out of a recipe book, it should state the author, ISBN,
publisher. If it's one of your own concoctions, please feel free to
say so.
Please, also suggest a category for the recipe to go in, as I'm a bit
clumsy with them :-)
# ** Please could people submit recipes in a plain text format. It's a
# real pain having to strip out MIME encodings, or HTML stuff. Thanks.
Other idi^H^H^Hpeople involved in this venture
----------------------------------------------
Mark Lowes <hamster@lspace.org> has created some web pages for the
recipes. They are now available on the L-Space web site, and you get
to them via the URL of:
http://www.lspace.org/fandom/recipes/index.html
and the site is maintained by Rob Collier <rob@lspace.org>. Please
note, if you click on the link to request the latest index, you should
ensure that your Subject line reads 'send index'.
The cabal@lspace.org provide mail redirection for the archive, for
which I am most grateful. Thanks guys.
