On the occasion of alt.fan.pratchett's fourth birthday in 1996, Leo Breebaart unveiled the original The Alt.fan.pratchett Timeline - a history of the first four years of AFP. In this original timeline, he tried to cover as many events, milestones and historically interesting "first occurrences" as possible.
Years passed and the Timeline remained untouched by human hand (or keyboard) until people began to ask "But what about those events that happened after 1996? Isn't there somewhere where they can be recorded too?" And one brave (foolish?) innocent answered "Well, I could put something together....."
So here I am...plodding bravely on.
Unlike Leo's original, I'm a little short on "historical firsts". After all, you can only have so many "firsts" in any newsgroup after seven years. So, instead, I've decided to concentrate on events and interesting occurances post-1999 and I've decided to use a slightly different format in this continuing Timeline as I've no idea how large (or small) the eventual archive will become with time. As in Leo's original, the a.f.p. articles used to illustrate the Timeline have been marginally edited down, cleaned up and reformatted, but no original text has been paraphrased or otherwise adapted.
A big "thank you" to everyone who has been involved in proofreading draft versions of various events, given permission for particular pieces to be included and given much useful feedback and support. I hope this was worth all the effort, folks.
