In the world according to Pterry, the most intelligent animal is the camel. Just think about it. What life could the greatest (non-human) mathematician in the world want other than a camel's. From the words of the man-in-the-hat himself, it offered 'adequate food and grooming and the chance to spit in a human's eye and get away with it'. Naturally, this particular camel came to be fondly known as, "You Bastard" (no relation to "Evil-Minded Son Of A Bitch").
