Unique amongst the faculty of Unseen University, not so much for having been attacked by elves and a fifty foot woman, but for his willingness to come face to face with students. Credited with the architecture of "Hex", the first device to use a stored programme of spells (softlore), although the official records refer dismissively to this simply as the work "of the new man".
