Pharaoh Mousemor
ne of
my sources mentioned to me that we have our first Pharaoh in our midst. Cherub mouse,
zoomed through the game and got presented with the end game video. I also understood
that's she's already started a re-match with herself, to see if she can beat her scores
and find more nifty ways to do things and help visitors.
So allow me to congratulate mouse on her new status.
The adventures in Abydos, keep our forum fast guys busy. More information
on how to finish this scenario in less than 90 months can be found here.
There's a nice little thread
in the Senet House on how people build cities in general. Nothing scenario specific, but
tips that work in al, or at least a great many, of the scenarios.

Zwarte Piet?
oday
was a bit of a strange day. I spent the morning dressed as the Dutch equivalent of one of
Santa's elves, helping our Santa, better known as Sint
Nicolaas. I have to admit, it's rather pleasant helping 55 kids ages 1 to 13 have a
good time. I guess it's just one of those quaint Dutch traditions, maybe I'll get some
pictures up...
Pharaoh seems to have hit the shelves in some of the more distant islands
The last few days. There's messages from Iceland and Australia telling us the game is
available there as well.
I wish you happy pyramid building.
The Senet House sees another patch-wish-list
this one started by Onoculator, and old time forumer det is wondering: "What will be next?"

Mission Impossible
ell,
not quite an impossible mission, but there are some interesting rumours about the mission
editor. Innovandora picked up something Alex Rodberg the Impressions Marketing Weasel
said.
We don't know when the editor will be released, though I wouldn't advise to hold your
breath for it. It's quite possible it will be part of some future expansion pack. If
that's the case, you're looking at spring of 2000 or thereabouts
Read more about this in the thread itself.
I've been playing with the information Angel Reckless Rodent gathered on the Trade
routes and have come up with two maps so far. The maps show all cities involved in trade
during a single period. Clicking on them will get you to the city's trade description.
Archaic Trade Map
Old Kingdom Map
Please note:
- the amounts are the initial amounts. This can change due to you fulfilling requests or
not and/or Curses/Blessings from Ra.
- some routes become available later in the scenario, so may not be there when you start.
The Middle and New kingdom should follow soon(ish).

The Games of Encouragement 1999
missed the previous
incarnation of this GameStats hosted event, but it's for a good cause, so be a friend and
go visit.
Here's the story:
Last year we presented the community with an opportunity to come together
and give a bunch of great kids some smiles that they might not otherwise have had at
Christmas. The program (which we dubbed Games Of Encouragement) was successful beyond all
expectations and we received over 1500 donations for Christmas 1998. GOE was so successful
in fact that the program benefited Ronald McDonald Houses all across the country!
This year, with your help the GOE program will be an even
bigger success and bring smiles to even more kids and help even more RMH homes!
With a response like that, we feel it is very important to give members of
the gaming community the opportunity to top themselves in 1999 and we are proud to be able
to again offer the gaming community the opportunity to help out some great kids and a
wonderful organization. We hope that you can get in the spirit of this wonderful idea and
enjoy giving to some very worthy children who will really appreciate it.
You can find out all about
the GoE by either following the link or clicking
on the banner at the top of the page.

A word from the masters
ronrod, from Impressions
has honoured us with a visit. You may have picked up bits about the flexibility and random
elements that are included in a scenario? Well, here is the word from the workfloor:
Nothing is truly random.
All events and parameters are scripted by the mission's creator, although there is
some limited randomization within scripted events which affects the precise timing and
quantities of goods or troops. (Difficulty level affects this -- harder levels favor
the higher quantities and shorter times within the defined range). Player actions
dictate what consequences flow from initial scripted events.
So, a request for something (possibly randomized as to both quantity and type) occurs
within a defined timeframe (which might have some randomization built into it). You
fulfill the request, which sends you down one path. Or you fail the request, sending
you down a different path. Or you fill the request late, which might lead to a third
path.!
Rewards and punishments have similar provision for randomization, but again within a
defined range.
Missions will tend to flow a bit differently if you replay them, and two players comparing
notes will probably have slightly different stories to tell. The broad story outline
of a particular mission remains constant, though.
If you want to have a look
at the rest of the thread you can find it here.
