Gremlins eat connection
W
ell, I'm off to a flying start here, not. Crashlanded is probably more accurate. Stuck behind my PC with a setup that won't allow me to connect to Pharaoh Heaven...and I'm sure I was here the other day.  Luckily Angel Reckless Rodent was kind enough to upload this bit of doggerel.

So, what was it I wanted to say?

First I wanted to tell you all, that Reckless Rodent and myself will be alternating the news between Caesar 3 and Pharaoh Heaven, for the next coming months.

Apart from that, due to the new screenshots released by Sierra some intersting thoughts have been brought forward in the forum. If you want to add some of your wisdom, please do it here.

Pharaoh1.com gets a new look
W
ow, what things happen while you're asleep, eh?  I logged on to the PH forum this morning to find a message from Innovandora saying that the official Pharaoh site run by Impressions (http://www.pharaoh1.com/).   Sure enough, when I headed over there, I found my eyes assailed by a veritable visual treat.  The old look has well and truly gone out the window, and has been replaced by all manner of hieroglyphics and a generally much more Egyptian look.   Don't believe me?  Check it out and see for yourselves.

To christen the new look, Impressions churned out 3 new screenshots, which they placed in their "Sneak Peek" section.  They're pretty interesting actually...certainly not groundbreaking but at least they show up a couple of things not pictured in the alpha screenshots which have hitherto been released.   The most notable bit is the Sphinx, which has undergone a couple of changed since it was shown in the first ever mock-up screenshot.   Also, do I detect the presence of a fort in one of the shots too..?  Comments can be placed here.

But that's not all.  Remember the .mp3 files of the C3 music which were released a while back?  Well it looks like the same thing is happening for Pharaoh, only much earlier in the game's development.  The first Pharaoh .mp3 hit the market (or should that be bazaar) today.  For those of you wanting to download it, right click on this link and choose "save target as" (in IE).  Very mysterious IMO.   Good stuff!

Chat log posted
E
arlier today, Sierra posted a log of last Thursday's chat between Impressions and the general public.  I got permissions from them (thanks guys) to post it here at Pharaoh Heaven, thereby giving me the chance to open up a brand new section.  The Chat Archive is now live - I'll be posting the transcripts of this and all future chats as they take place and the logs become available.   Ultimately, it'll be a source of information for people wanting to find out all there is to know about Pharaoh, and will also provide an interesting reference point to see how the game changed during its development.  For now, there's only the one chat log present, and you can comment about it here in the forum.

Not to be outdone, Angel Jayhawk posted another pic of Egypt in the forum.  This time, it's a pic of the sacred lake at Karnak.  Get the full version here if you're interested in finding out a bit more (and who wouldn't be?).

Et Flavius to the rescue
T
ech dude Cherub Et Flavius from Caesar III Heaven has been working hard over the past little while to see if he can sort out the problems that some of you out there have been having viewing the QuickTime movies at the official Pharaoh site.  Here's his latest statement on the matter:

Just a clarification, QT will run on a pretty minimal computer. I loaded up a 166MMX, with QT 4.0, made sure DirectX was enabled, and used their player to view the Pharaoh 1 infomovie. Not a hitch, played the high bandwidth perfectly..now on to laptops. I need to apologize for jumping on named video cards...totally my fault for not 'checking' their respective setups.

The QuickTime downloads are a pain...but 4.0 offers a update utility that will make future needs less cumbersome. Especially now that the Mac has broken into the scene with C3.

Check out the rest of what he has to say here.

Still no sign of the chat log from last Thursday appearing on Pharaoh1.com.   I'll keep chasing them until they post it - I'm eager to see what happened there too.  The bit in the forum about it really whetted the appetite!
