pyramid.jpg (1125 bytes) Famine threatens the whole land! Osiris must be angry, because the floods in the last years come irregularly or not at all. In this hard time, our brave troops have captured Kharga Oasis from Bedouins. This oasis is small, but near it is a place that can save us from starvation: Wadi Hassan. Each year when the rain falls in the mountains, a strong current of water runs through the usually dry riverbed and fills a great reservoir. After some time, the water vanishes-- but obviously, it does not evaporate.-- it must soak into the sandstone bedrock, because the area of the reservoir is very fertile and has enough water over the entire year.

You have a unique chance to build our first glorious city deep in the desert. All other large cities are situated on the Nile or near it, because of transport and food sources -- but now, with Osiris wrath upon us -- we have to find other sources of food. Build a prosperous city, with a Temple Complex to honor Osiris and a Sun Temple, and be prepared to supply Egyptian cities with food.

There are virtually no raw materials in this area, except sandstone, but other cities will gladly sell you everything you desire, and if you help them in this time of famine, you are likely to be rewarded. Remember, that everyone is struggling these days, and it might be better to be considerate of other city's difficulties as well as your own....

Some trees do grow in this area and you can increase your income through the export of valuable wood. You may even get a chance to export some beer, but as people say that beer from this area is not good, it may not be very profitable. Exports of food could prove to be more lucrative than usual, prices are high because of low supplies throughout Egypt. As always, construction projects need wood. And, the rumor is that Abu is expanding their mining efforts. This could prove valuable to you as Pharaoh has plans for a large monument in another city and would be pleased if you can amass some future grave goods to honor his ancestors. The Bedouins were crushed heavily in the battle, but they will recover in time. They are also hungry in this time of famine and will try to steal some food from you. Be ready for them.

And remember, you were sent to Wadi Hassan because Egypt needs food - if you fail to supply it, you will feel the wrath of Pharaoh!
